Lunar New Year
The Lunar New Year 2022 falls on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, and celebrations culminate with the Lantern Festival on February 15th, 2022. The Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays for members of the Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and well as many East Asian communities around the world. The phrase “Happy New Year” is “Xīnnián kuàilè” in Mandarin Chinese and “sun nin fai lok” in Cantonese. “Gung Hei Fat Choi” is a common way in Cantonese to express New Year wishes, which means “May You Have Good Fortune,” while in Mandarin it is expressed as “gōng xǐ fā cái.” We thank the Chinese Heritage Association of Northern Ontario for sharing their celebration with us. Xièxiè dàjiā (Thank you, everyone).
